The play room
The playroom is a bright and cheerful environment, where your child can feel safe. Non medical treatment, food or drinks are allowed. In this room we promote lots of play and mess.
Daily developmental activities will be available for your child set up by the Hospital Play Specialists. However, for safety reasons a carer should supervise their child at all times.
The playroom is equipped with a variety of toys and a range of developmental activities. But if your child has a favourite toy or DVD please bring it in with you.
Sensory room
Our sensory room, located within the playroom, The Portland Paradise, is white which creates an environment that can help children to be calm and relax. It includes soft furniture, lighting equipment, variety of textures and smells; and a sound system to produce music and sound effects.
Multi-sensory rooms have long been used to stimulate, relax, calm or energize. Published reports document numerous accounts on how multi-sensory rooms have made a real difference to the quality of life for a child with specific needs. Some of the benefits are to enable children to promote communication, sharing, opportunity for touch, relationship building, development of language, improve hand and eye co-ordination, passive stimulation, distraction and rehabilitation.
